Here’s Where You’ll Find the Best St. Augustine Surfing
1. North of Blowhole
If you ask any local where they go for the best swells, the first response you’ll get is just north of Blowhole located in Anastasia State Park. They’ll also let you know that the best time to ride is during low tide, which tends to be around either 10:00 a.m. or 10:00 p.m. depending on the day. If you come during this time, you’ll get to experience the best of this destination’s long, smooth barrels for a seemingly endless ride. But, it’s always a good idea to check the surf forecast before heading out to ensure the conditions are perfect for your day of gliding across the waves.
2. “The Middles”
Another location within Anastasia State Park is known to locals as “The Middles.” This destination is even further north of Blowhole and offers the best St. Augustine surf at low to mid tide. The waves here can be a bit rougher and less clean, but they still have plenty of power that make for a challenging ride.
3. Vilano Beach
Vilano Beach is one of our favorite beaches in St. Augustine, and happens to be one of the most accessible places to surf. It offers consistent, year-round swells that are great for beginner level surfers. One the best days you’ll see small, tight barrels, while most average days consist of shorebreaks.
4. Flagler Beach Fishing Pier
Finally, this local pier plays a significant role in creating some of the best St. Augustine surf. Here, waves form into a “wedge,” which is essentially two waves colliding from different angles to make a peak. This unique style of wave packs a lot of punch and offers an enjoyable ride. However, you can also find a few barrels here as well. Stop by at high-tide and check the surf forecast to get an hourly analysis on this great east coast surf spot.
